Night of the Moonjelies FIAR

Night of the Moonjellies by Mark Shasha is a wonderful story of a seven year old boy who worked with his family at their New England, waterfront food stand.  On his way to work one day, the boy finds some pretty seaglass and a small jellyfish on the beach.  After a busy day at the restaurant, his grandmother surprises him with a boat trip out to sea, where they experience the water filled with bioluminescent moonjellies. They release the boy's moonjelly.

Social Studies: Geography ~ New England, Responsibility, Life Near the Sea

We colored the New England states on a map, learned which states are the New England states.

Also, did the "Responsible" and "Life Near the Sea" mini books from Homeschool Share.

Talking about life near the sea was interesting with the five senses aspect.

Science: Moon Jellyfish Anatomy, Aquatic Biome,  Sea Shells Observation,

We visited the author's website Mark Shasha where we learned lots of info about the Moonjellies.  He calls them combjelly.  Learned about the types of Jellies.

Learned and colored ocean about ocean animals.

We did a Sea Shell Observation activity that was fun.  Thanks for the Observation sheet that I downloaded from here 2teachingmommies
